| September 14, 2001 East side Coffee Cafe Opens with New Owners A new coffee house has opened on the east side of Clarke County. Bruce and Pam Barker have established Cups Coffee Cafe at 1911 Barnett Shoals Road in the Green Acres Shopping Center. Cups has moved into the space where Java Rocket coffee used to operate. Cups serves ''Seattle's Best'' coffee, a full range of coffee drinks, ice cream, milkshakes, smoothie drinks, flavor shots, baked goods and desserts. Cups is open from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m Sunday. |
| March 14,2003 Barker's Framed in Victory Bruce and Pam Barker, owners of the framing shop House of 10,000 Frames and a number of other local businesses, are this year's winners of the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce's H. Randolph Holder Small Business Person of the Year Award. The Athens entrepreneurs, in business for 33 years, were honored at a Thursday luncheon at the Classic Center in downtown Athens. The award is named for the esteemed Athens radio broadcasting executive who died last year. ''It's both an honor and a pleasure to accept an award from our peers for something we enjoy doing so much,'' said Bruce Barker, standing before a crowd of more than 400 people in the Classic Center's Athena Ballroom. Other nominees for the award were Downing Barber, owner of Barberitos, an East Clayton Street restaurant; Myra Blackmon, owner of M. Blackmon Public Relations; Angelo and Lina Cortese, owners of Angelo's Restaurant in downtown Athens; Cindy Karp of Cindy Karp Realty; James Komar, owner of Especially for You, a Comer bed-and-breakfast, and Full of Flavor, cooking classes; and Jim White, co-owner of Harry Bissett's New Orleans Cafe in downtown Athens. The award recognizes creativity, ability to handle adversity, sustained growth and community involvement. In addition to House of 10,000 Frames, founded by Pam Barker's father, the couple's other business interests include Clayton Street Gallery, Framer's Supply Co. and Cups Coffee Cafe. After accepting the award, the couple said they were just thrilled to be considered. ''We had some great nominees that all work hard and have great businesses,'' said Bruce Barker. | January 17,2004 Framing shop adopts new business moniker The Athens Art Group, which operates a custom framing enterprise, a retail shop selling University of Georgia merchandise and a coffee cafe, recently renamed its House of 10,000 Frames on Prince Avenue and expanded the shop's merchandise line. Now called the Prince Avenue Gallery, the business has added a collection of original oils. The large selection features a variety of styles from traditional to contemporary, in a range of sizes. Still life, music scenes, abstracts, landscapes, cityscapes and nature scenes are among the subject matters of the collection. In addition to the new collection of original oil paintings, the Prince Avenue Gallery also carries a variety of sizes and styles of portrait and oil painting frames, decorative mirrors, authentic antique prints and maps and unique, imported photo frames as well as custom framing services. The new collection of original oils will debut Friday and Saturday. | December 10, 2006 GA FRAMER COMPLETES RECERTIFICATION COURSE Connie Massey, CPF of the Athens Art Group, Inc in Athens, GA has updated her certification by participating in the Professional Picture Framer’s Association’s Recertification course. Recertification is the continuing education component of the CERTIFIED PICTURE FRAMER program. Initiated in 1986 by PPFA, the CPF program recognizes those framers who prove, through written examination, mastery of principles essential to both picture framing and meeting customer needs. The recertification course was developed to ensure that framers maintain their CPF designation by covering the latest industry innovation and currently accepted framing concepts. CPF’s certified after 1993 are required to take part in the refresher course every four years to retain their status.
